Reports of active shooter outside of Peachtree Mall in Columbus

There were reports of active shooter outside of Peachtree Mall, Columbus. 

An eyewitness who was there said "it Sounded like automatic fire followed by a series of a semi automatic shots. Then nothing."

Another one Ryn Welch said "Nicole Singleton I was there around the corner. I believe it to be an officer on bad guy shooting. That’s all there is to it. I’m not 100%"

Lynn Tucker Back said "We were checking out at JcPenney and they made us leave. Came over the speaker and said everyone in JcPenney get out now. We ran straight into the parking lot thinking the danger was in the mall. Little did we know we were running towards the danger. It was very scary and praying for the injured."

Wilson said "I'm glad we all got out of there ok. I had just sat my boys in Santa's lap when all hell broke loose."

Sharena said "Sick of Peachtree Mall 🫠 it just never fails … lady said all My employees get in here running for they life and  I told her ass lady I’m an employee today 🥴 my safety matters too"

More accounts below "Lynn Tucker Back omg! At one point they were looking for them outside. I manage the tattoo shop and one of them threw the gun under one of our employees car. So they were outside with guns! We dropped our gate and kept our clients INSIDE with us. That is wild they ushered you outside!"

"We were there!! All we wanted was Santa pictures for our 3 year old and her best friend! We were next in line and they ran everyone out! My husband had a toddler on each arm and I had our 11 year old. Literally the most terrifying thing I’ve ever experienced! We will attempt a different Santa location tomorrow, NOT IN COLUMBUS!"

A report said "One person has been taken to a nearby hospital after being shot multiple times during busy Christmas shopping at Peachtree Mall.

Gunfire erupted around 6:25 P.M. on Friday, December 22, 2023 outside of Peachtree Mall in the back corner of JC Penny’s.

Viewers reported having to run through the mall, as well as lock themselves inside businesses. One person was wounded by gunfire.

“The scene is contained and there is no threat to public safety,” police said “It’s still an active scene.”

Investigators are currently on the scene gathering more information.
