Multiple reports of active shooter at Arden Fair Mall, Sacramento as many are doing Christmas Shopping
Sacramento police found evidence of a shooting at Arden Fair Mall on Saturday night that caused a man minor injuries.
According to the Sacramento Police Department, a suspect was identified through surveillance video, but he fled the scene.
Police said a 22-year-old man was injured, possibly as a result of shrapnel from the bullet that was fired.
The shooting is being considered as an accidental discharge by police. They do not believe the victim of the shooting was targeted directly.
Police said the shooting happened on the second floor of the mall, and confirmed there was no disturbance before or after.
Cody Tapley, Sacramento Police Department spokesperson said "there will be more investigation, but for now they are not in custody".
There is no suspect description available at this time.
An eyewitness, Sarah Sanderson wrote
"Just a normal date night, doing some Xmas shopping at the mall with Thom … then the next thing we know, we are speed walking to the nearest exit (Macy’s) because we heard a gunshot. Active shooter training from work came in handy. 😱 Seeing the fear on the faces of the crowds of people running for the exits, while not knowing what happened, where the person or persons were, or who was potentially hurt was scary. Per usual, my brain went immediately into problem solving mode and I trusted my instinct to just get TF outta there. ðŸ§
Luckily for everyone, what I am reading is this was an “accidental discharge” of a weapon, but why someone carries a loaded gun without the safety on in the middle of a crowded mall is beyond me. 😢 I am so thankful this senseless accident is what occurred and not something much worse."
