2 arrested after motorist shot in Millbrook traffic, police say

In a shocking turn of events, the tranquility of Millbrook was shattered on a Monday afternoon as gunfire erupted near the busy intersection of Highway 14 and Old Prattville Road.

A man driving through the area fell victim to the violence, sustaining injuries to the lower abdomen and groin.

The incident, characterized by an alarming number of rounds fired, prompted swift action from the Millbrook Police Department, resulting in the arrest of two individuals charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

The chief of police, P.K. Johnson, emphasized the city's commitment to preventing such acts of violence and expressed gratitude that the incident did not result in more severe consequences.

The Afternoon Chaos Unfolds

At a busy intersection where daily life typically unfolds without incident, chaos erupted on Monday afternoon as two vehicles were struck by gunfire.

The intended target, a man driving through the area, suffered injuries to the lower abdomen and groin.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Chief P.K. Johnson assured the public that the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Miraculously, another person in the targeted vehicle escaped unharmed.

Fortunate Avoidance of Tragedy

Chief Johnson expressed gratitude that the incident did not escalate into a more tragic outcome.

He noted the "ridiculous amount of rounds fired" during the incident, leaving no doubt about the perpetrators' intentions.

The reckless act endangered the lives of those in the vicinity, highlighting the potential for unforeseen consequences when such violence occurs in densely populated areas.

Swift Arrests and Charges

The Millbrook Police Department, armed with witness descriptions of the suspect vehicle, moved swiftly to apprehend two individuals in the Prattville area.

Korde’z T. Ervin, 24, and Latrell R. White, 22, both hailing from Selma, were charged with two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

The suspects are currently held in the Elmore County jail without bail, pending further warrants.

Discovery of Weapons and Ongoing Dispute

In the aftermath of the arrests, investigators found several weapons discarded in a dumpster near businesses in the area of Fairview Avenue and Old Farm Lane.

The recovered weapons have been impounded as potential evidence in the case.

Chief Johnson revealed that the victim appears to have been targeted due to an ongoing dispute between the parties involved.

However, cooperation from the victim has been limited, posing challenges for investigators seeking a comprehensive understanding of the motives behind the shooting.

Community Resilience and Zero Tolerance for Violence

Chief Johnson concluded his statement by reiterating that the City of Millbrook will not tolerate such acts of violence.

While acknowledging that no city is immune from violence, he emphasized that incidents of this nature are not common in Millbrook.

The commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community remains paramount, with law enforcement actively addressing the roots of violence and working towards preventing future occurrences.

Conclusion

The brazen afternoon shooting in Millbrook serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences when disputes escalate to violence.

As the legal proceedings unfold for Ervin and White, the community must come together to address the underlying issues contributing to such incidents.

Chief Johnson's unequivocal stance against violence reinforces the collective responsibility to build a safer and more resilient Millbrook, where the sound of gunfire does not disrupt the fabric of daily life.
