Fake reports of active shooter at Great Lake Crossing Mall in Auburn, Michigan causes scare.
Many people were made to run because of the fake alert.
Some of the parents shared their experiences thus:
"I was there as well, son was playing in the play area at the food court. We saw all these parents faces mortified, quickly scooping up their kids and running. I heard someone's shooting as I carried my son to the nearest exit with my wife right behind me."
"was at the mall during this. Crowd of people ran by screaming gun / shooter and caused panic. Now a days its best to just run and not take chances because mass shootings happen to often anymore"
"we were there as well and ran but didn’t know why everyone was running."
"Amanda Midcalf I was there too with my husband and kiddos. We just saw everyone running out and in panic. Someone told us there was an armed person. Scary and so sad that nowadays we are to worry about that kind of stuff."
There are some reports that said it was a smash and grab in the food court at one of the jewelry stores.
Three guys were seen with hammers.
Auburn Hills Police Department said "IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
There have been reports of an active shooter at Great Lakes Crossing. This is NOT TRUE and there is no threat to the public. There is a police presence for a larceny incident, and nothing else at this time."
