We are getting multiple reports of active shooter at Perry High School in Perry, Iowa.
Shots fired, students running.
Happened before school started.
Other area high schools placed on lockdown.
A parent said "Went to take my kid to school and someone shoot it up. Active shooter on the ground in Perry high school."
Several people shot and two life flight helicopters on scene.
Both helicopters have landed back in Des Moines both with patients on board.
Officers were called to the scene early Thursday. Officials were unable to confirm details on the situation.
Unofficial reports said the shooter is down by self inflicted injuries and 10 kids a injured.
The Dallas County Sheriff's Office confirmed with Local 5 that an active shooter was on the campus the morning of Jan. 4, 2023. The high school is located at 1200 8th Street in Perry.
It is sad to learn that this happened on the first day of the spring semester.
The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) campus in Perry is closed Thursday, they posted the following message:
"DMACC is aware of an active violence situation that occurred at Perry High School this morning. The DMACC Perry Center is closed and classes are canceled today. Reports are that all DMACC personnel are safe and accounted for. We will follow up with additional information as it becomes available. Stay tuned to campus email and the DMACC website for updates."
Additional information we are getting said the principle and 9 other casualties have been shot.
Also, Was just told that the principal was life flighted out and pronounce dead at the hospital
