Iranian navy has reportedly taken control of 'ST NIKOLAS', an oil tanker previously captured by the U.S. for carrying Iranian oil.
The ship, ‘St Nikolas', previously known as 'Suez Rajan', reportedly was part of an U.S. sanctions enforcement operation against Iran.
UK reports the vessel was boarded by individuals wearing military-style black uniforms and masks, allegedly Iranian Special Forces, with communication subsequently lost.
The oil tanker now appeared to be changing course towards Iranian waters.
Oil prices rose due to this incident.
The ship loaded 145,000 metric tonnes of oil in the Iraqi port of Basra and was heading to Aliaga in western Turkey via the Suez Canal.
The Suez Rajan was carrying more than 980,000 barrels of Iranian crude oil last year when it was seized and the oil confiscated in the U.S. sanctions enforcement.
