Breaking: Police Pursuit ended with young officer shot in Scranton, Pennsylvania

Swetland Street is blocked off on North Main Avenue in Scranton after authorities say a police officer was shot this morning. 

It was a Police Pursuit. 

A vehicle was chased down North main and stopped across the street from rite aid.

Foot pursuit of two suspects started. 

15 shots fired, an officer was struck and  taken to a hospital. There is no word on his condition.

One suspect is in custody and they are looking for the second suspect. 


According to officials, the shooting took place at the intersection of North Main Avenue and Swetland Street around 4:30 a.m.


Due to the investigation, the Scranton School District is operating under a two-hour delay. 


Scranton FireFighters released the following message:

"To our supports,


We are currently aware of the situation involving our brothers and sisters in blue with the Scranton Police Department. Please pray for the officers involved and allow for them to deal with the situation as best they can at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. 


Scranton Firefighters"

State of emergency has been declared in Scranton.

Blakely Police Department released the following statement:

"Our hearts are heavy as we send our thoughts and prayers to the brave Scranton Police Officer who was shot this morning.   Sending heartfelt prayers for his strength, a swift recovery, and comfort to his family. To our brothers and sisters in the Scranton Police Department, you are not alone – the Blakely Police Department stands with you."

Diamond View Briefly Locked Down While Police Investigate Threat
