Nashville rideshare driver accused of robbing female passengers is now in custody

However, instead of the expected female driver, the victims were met by Hughes.

Deceptive Tactics:

According to the victims, Hughes informed them that the originally assigned female driver was unavailable due to illness. Trusting the information provided by the app, including the verified license number, the victims entered the car. As Hughes drove along Nolensville Pike, he allegedly claimed to be lost and then brandished a pistol, demanding the passengers exit the vehicle and leave all their belongings behind. Subsequently, Hughes fled the scene with the victims' possessions.

Swift Police Response:

Following the harrowing ordeal, the victims sought assistance from a person in a Nolensville Pike business parking lot, who promptly contacted the police. The victims' cell phones were later recovered in an area where they were seemingly discarded by Hughes.

Uber's Response:

The rideshare company emphasized the importance of riders matching key trip details, such as the license plate, make and model of the vehicle, and driver name, before starting a trip.
