South Korea's opposition leader Lee Jae-myung was stabbed in the neck by an unidentified man during a visit to Busan on Tuesday (Jan 2).
The attacker was arrested at the scene and Lee was taken conscious to a local hospital.
Lee, who narrowly lost the 2022 presidential election, was conscious and being flown to Seoul National University in the capital after receiving emergency treatment at the Pusan National University Hospital.
Medical staff determined his condition was not life-threatening based on emergency treatment.
The attacker appeared to be in his 50s or 60s and wearing a paper crown with Lee's name on it
During the attack, there were more than two dozen police officers present.
The attacker is refusing to answer police questions about his motives.
