Fire crews are battling another large blaze in Canterbury tonight that has put "multiple structures under threat".
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson told the Herald crews are battling a large vegetation fire on both sides of State Highway 1, south of Waipara.
Crews from seven brigades are currently fighting the fire, with two helicopters also in the air.

There is a large vegetation fire on both sides of State Highway 1 south of Waipara.
Please avoid the area and delay any travel along the road, which is closed to north and southbound traffic. SH1 is backed up to Amberley.
Fire crews are in attendance as well as two helicopters.
There is a north west wind blowing, so those people affected by the smoke from the fire should close windows and doors, and stay inside if possible.

⚠️Glasnevin fire update 9pm ⚠️
The fire has now been contained. This means it is no longer growing in size, but is still actively burning, meaning smoke will still be in the area for some time, as will our crews as they work to extinguish the fire.
It currently sits at five hectares in size. Fifteen ground crews remain on the scene, while the two helicopters have been stood down for the night. Heavy machinery is on its way to the scene to assist with firefighting efforts.
⚠️Glasnevin fire update 8.30pm ⚠️
Firefighters are continuing to work to bring the fire near Glasnevin in the Hurunui District under control.
Fifteen ground crews and two helicopters are fighting the fire.
State Highway 1 remains closed, and will be for some time. People should plan for extensive delays, particularly if they are travelling north, with traffic backed up to Amberley.
People are advised to avoid the area, and those impacted by smoke should close their windows and doors, and stay inside. Residents are advised to call Healthline on 0800 611 116 if they have any related health concerns or experience any respiratory difficulties as a result of smoke.
For those who are evacuating their properties, the Hurunui District Council advises for those on the north side of the Waipara River there is an evacuation centre at the Waipara Hall, for those on the south side of the Waipara River it is the Tin Shed, at Amberley Domain.
