The volcano on the Reykjanes Ridge in Iceland has begun to erupt. This is the third volcano eruption in the region in recent months, preceded by strong earthquakes as lava pooled under the surface.
The eruption is approximately 3 miles north of Grindavik, the site of the previous eruption.
The eruption began at 6 am local time with lava spewing from a 3km long stretch of the Reykjaness Peninsula.
People in the local area have been evacuated.
Experts in Iceland are expecting the eruption to release approximately 5 million cubic meters of lava over the next 80 hours.
The eruption can be seen throughout the southern region of Iceland.
