In his state-of-the-union speech, Vladimir Putin made his most explicit threat to use nuclear weapons since he ordered the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Putin focused the first part of his annual state-of-the-union address on accusing the West of "trying to drag us into an arms race" by "trying to wear us down."
“The West miscalculated and ran into the firm position and determination of our multinational people,” the Russian leader said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia was united as it faced the threats of "international terrorism" and challenges to its sovereignty.
In his national address, Vladimir Putin praises the "heroes" on the front lines and "in the trenches", who are "suffering" but have the "whole country's" support.
Vladimir Putin has told Nato countries they risk nuclear conflict if they send troops to Ukraine.
He added that Russia must strengthen its western military district after Finland and Sweden’s admission to the Atlantic alliance.
