The combined average response time for “life-threatening medical emergencies” by ambulances and fire companies jumped 9 seconds from 9 minutes and 43 seconds in the first four months of fiscal year 2023-24.
FDNY official:
“Increased response times may be attributed to higher levels of traffic, an increase in the overall incidence of life-threatening medical emergencies, a decrease in the number of ambulances in service per day, and an increase in ambulance emergency room turnover time."
