Armed gangs in Haiti's capital released roughly 4,000 inmates from the country's largest prison after a days-long gun battle with police on Sunday.
Gangs in Haiti have teamed up and after freeing over 4000 prisoners, they have vowed to arrest senior police commanders and their Prime Minister Ariel Henry as soon as he lands in Haiti.
The leader of one of Haiti's armed gangs, nicknamed "Barbecue", after a successful raid on a prison in Port-au-Prince this weekend and the release of 4,000 prisoners, announced that all the gangs of one of the oldest democracies in the world would unite to overthrow the Prime Minister of Haiti, who is now in Kenya
Haiti’s government declared on Sunday a state of emergency and nighttime curfew in a bid to regain control of the country after a deadly gang assault on the capital’s main prison that allowed thousands of inmates to escape.
The curfew will be enforced from 6 pm to 5 am in the Ouest region, which includes the capital, through Wednesday, the government said in a statement, adding that both the curfew and the state of emergency can be extended.
