A heartbreaking incident occurred yesterday afternoon at a residence, resulting in the untimely death of an 11-year-old boy.
According to SAPD, the incident was reported around 8:15 p.m. as a crash that occurred on a private property on the 5000 block of Sunlit Brook.
The victim, identified as an 11-year-old male, was reportedly standing on the driveway of his family's residence when the tragic events unfolded.
Initial investigations revealed that an older juvenile relative of the victim attempted to drive a family member's Toyota Corolla, which was parked in the driveway.
However, the older juvenile, lacking a driver's license and driving experience, mistakenly shifted the vehicle into drive instead of reverse. He inadvertently accelerated, striking the young victim.
The crash woke up family members, who came to the victim's aid. Despite their efforts, the young boy succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Authorities have confirmed that family members at the scene cooperated fully with the police during the preliminary investigation. However, the investigation remains ongoing.
