WA Police attending a Broome home on Tuesday over a report of trespass encountered what they called a “confronting incident”, finding two young children bound and held captive.
The six-year-old girl and seven-year-old boy had their hands cable-tied together at the home on Conkerberry Road, Cable Beach.
Onlookers held out by the locked fence live-streamed the incident to social media.
“They were frightened ... they were crying, shaking and singing out for their mum,” Leandra McKenzie Said.
McKenzie said a tradie had arrived at the address for a job and found the children swimming in his client’s pool.
“It would have been over an hour it was ... we were yelling at him to tell him to release them ... but he just wouldn’t give up,” she claimed.
WA Police said they had been called around 2.15pm and “responded quickly”.
A man was taken into custody for questioning.
Paramedics checked the children before they were reunited with their families.
Police have called for calm in the community.
“Police are working closely with the affected families, and encourage community members to allow officers to thoroughly investigate the matter so that the full circumstances can be established,” a police spokesperson said.
