RUSSIA'S POVERTY RATE DECLINES, PUTIN PROPOSES STATE SUPPORT
According to Rosstat, the number of Russians living below the poverty line decreased to 13.5 million in 2023 from 14.3 million the previous year, with the poverty rate falling to 9.3% from 9.8%.
The poverty line was set at 14,339 rubles ($158.92) per month.
President Putin has proposed additional state support totalling at least $110 billion, including tax allowances for families with children and extra funds for regions with low birth rates.
