Breaking: 20-year-old arrested after Thursday stabbing on App State campus, NC

An App State student has been arrested after a stabbing incident on campus Thursday afternoon.

According to the university, App State Police responded to the area of Peacock Hall for a report of a stabbing at 12:07 p.m.

One individual was injured and, after being treated on the scene, was transported to Watauga Medical Center and is receiving treatment. The name of the injured student is not being released at this time.

App State student Emmet Cardwell, 20, of Durham, North Carolina, was arrested and charged with the felony crime of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. App State Police’s investigation is ongoing.

A second person believed to have been involved, also an App State student, has been interviewed, but has not been charged with a crime at this time, according to the university.

“This was immediately determined to be an isolated incident,” said App State Chief of Police Andy Stephenson. “Officers who arrived at the scene quickly determined the suspects were not on campus, and that the victim and suspects knew one another.”

A campus wide emergency notification was distributed via the university’s AppState-ALERT emergency notification system at 12:22 p.m., notifying of the crime and to avoid the area.

At 12:32 p.m., a second campus wide AppState-ALERT notification announced that suspects were in custody. At 1:24 p.m., a third campus wide AppState-ALERT notification advised there was no ongoing threat to campus safety, and normal activities could resume.

All AppState-ALERT notifications were immediately posted to the university’s main website and emergency website, appstatealert.com.

The Boone Police Department, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, Mountaineer Medics, App State Emergency Management, Boone Fire Department and Watauga Medics responded to the incident.

“I’d like to thank the Boone Police Department for their response, which resulted in the quick detention of the suspects,” said Stephenson.

The investigation is ongoing, and there is no threat to the App State campus.

Diamond View Briefly Locked Down While Police Investigate Threat

There were some scary moments Wednesday morning for Diamond View School students, staff and parents, after the Susanville Police Department received a report of a student who may have brought a firearm to school’s campus, which was immediately placed on a ‘lockdown status.’ “Officers arrived and met with the school principal, who identified the student,” explains Interim Chief of Police Michael Bengoa-Bollinger. “It was learned no gun was ever observed, and it was a ‘statement’ that had been overheard by the reporting students while on the bus to school this morning.” School officials and officers contacted the student away from the other children and found no firearm in the student’s possession. The student was interviewed by officers who found the statements made not to be an actual threat to the school or any other students. As soon as it was determined that there was no threat, the school issued a notice that it was no longer on lockdown status. “We want to thank the school officia...

Oklahoma state Sen. Dusty Deevers hates porn so much he’s introduced a bill that would criminalize it — and that includes sexting outside of marriage. Dusty Deevers is a far-right pastor who was recently elected to the Oklahoma state senate. The Christian nationalist says p*rnography must be outlawed because everyone who participates in or views it knows that they are violating “the holy character of God” in doing so. Republican Senator new bill is seeking 20 YEARS in prison for WATCHING p*rn.  However, he put a loophole in that married couples can still send each other explicit images. Sen. Dusty Deevers is waging "spiritual warfare" to outlaw p*rnography because he says those who use/produce it are under a demonic "power that they aren't able to control." The ‘Pro-Life’ Lawmaker also Seeks To Penalize Abortions With Death Penalty Senator Dusty Deevers (R) has introduced legislation that seeks to classify abortion as murder, a move that represents an escalation...
