The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is on the hunt for several suspects involved in a theft and assault incident at a CVS in southeast D.C.
The incident unfolded at the pharmacy chain located in the 1100 block of New Jersey Avenue on Tuesday around 8:45 p.m.
According to a police report, the suspects, who remain unidentified, items from the store without paying. When confronted by a security guard, MPD said one of the suspects hurled a bottle at them, narrowly missing the guard.
On Wednesday, 7News obtained videos from the incident posted to X (formerly Twitter). Videos appear to show juveniles running around the store, some in confrontation with an employee and someone throwing what appears to be a plastic bottle before leaving the store.
Police released several surveillance photos of some of the suspects wanted.
"Love, Washington BUT am super frustrated as a resident of Navy Yard. Went to [CVS Pharmacy] just now and it was ransacked," Dang Laing said in the X post. "Employees were great. No confidence in [Mayor Muriel Bower] to fix this. [Metro] said they wanted the video, [D.C. Police] has already left the scene. Pathetic."
A CVS spokesperson told 7News that no customers or employees were hurt and that they are working with MPD to investigate the shoplifting incident. The store was open on Wednesday.
In the past, several CVS locations in D.C. have become targets of shoplifting and theft as locals turn to District leaders to express their frustrations.
At the end of February, CVS shuttered its Columbia Heights location which was a constant target for thieves. So much so that when 7News covered their closure in January, much of the store's shelves had been wiped clean due to ransacking.
CVS Pharmacy did not say the decision to close was due to crime.
Anyone who can identify these suspects is urged to call the police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. MPD currently offers a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for a crime committed in the District.
