Two victims were shot in the incident, and one had died from their injuries, Murfreesboro Police Department reports. Paul Howell, 49, was transported to the hospital where he later died. The second victim, a 48-year-old man, was shot in the arm and treated for his injury.
The suspect arrested was identified by police as 49-year-old Joseph Gann. He left the scene of the shooting before coming back later to turn himself in to law enforcement.
Preliminary investigation shows Gann was driving on S. Rutherford Boulevard when a road rage incident with a group of motorcycle riders took place.
Things escalated at the intersection of S. Rutherford Blvd. and SE Broad/Manchester Highway when detectives say Gann fired multiple shots, striking two of the motorcyclists.
Murfreesboro Police said the two motorcyclists were taken to the hospital Saturday night after being shot at around 7:45 p.m.
Gann was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and one count of reckless endangerment. He is in jail at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $1,510,000 bond.
A hearing is set for June 24 in Rutherford County General Sessions Court.
