Good Morning,
As you may have heard, there was an active shooter situation at Mount Horeb Middle School yesterday. We are deeply saddened by this event.
The simple fact is that schools should and must be a place where students and staff feel completely safe and secure. News of an incident like this understandably leaves many of us feeling shaken. Many of us including myself have family or friends that either attend school or work at Mt. Horeb Schools which makes us realize the reality of these situations even more.
I want our entire school community to know that the safety of our students and staff is our first and most important priority. I spoke to Law Enforcement yesterday to ensure there were not other threats that would have impacted us. As a reminder, we have been very dedicated to holding school safety training for our staff. I also want to remind you that you should always enter our School through the District Office and sign in so we can keep our building safe and secure.
We also know that children and teens will process this news in different ways. With this in mind, our counselors are available to assist students who may need some extra support. We strongly encourage students to stop by the counseling offices at any time.
Please join us in keeping the students, staff, and families of the Mount Horeb Area School District in our thoughts and prayers at this time.
Sincerely,
Beau Buchs
Superintendent
