The U.S. House Oversight Committee has intensified scrutiny over withheld recordings from Biden's interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur.
The committee passed a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for not complying with subpoenas demanding these recordings. The issue now heads to a full House vote.
These subpoenas seek audio that could provide insights into Biden’s handling of classified information and his cognitive state, further described in Hur’s report as that of a "sympathetic, elderly man with a poor memory."
While a transcript of the interview is public, Republicans claim that the audio is essential to fully gauge the president's condition.
In response, the White House has cited executive privilege, backed by Garland, who asserts the importance of protecting law enforcement files.
