Active Shooter Investigation

Today, Sunday May 12, 2024, at 4:42 PM, the Madison County Sheriff's Office 9-1-1 Center starting receiving multiple calls reporting shots fired inside the Amazon CMH5 Fullfilment Center, 6400 SR 29 NE, West Jefferson.

Madison County Sheriff's Deputies responded to assist the West Jefferson Police Department.

At this time, there are no reported injuries.

The unknown suspect has left the area to an unknown location.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office is assisting the West Jefferson Police Department with this on-going investigation.

We will update as more information is available.

Additional information we are getting said The shooter just shot a Columbus police officer, this is not official information.

The suspect is also down.

News Update: The suspect in today's Amazon workplace shooting died at a local hospital shortly after a confrontation with police

An eyewitness said "I was driving home from work and saw the plumes of smoke on the side of 70W... I thought something was on fire. Dude must have had a rifle or something for that much smoke to have been bellowing. I tried calling the non-emergency line but of course you can't get through to anyone. Didn't think it was worth calling 911 over but apparently it was... wtf."

Diamond View Briefly Locked Down While Police Investigate Threat

There were some scary moments Wednesday morning for Diamond View School students, staff and parents, after the Susanville Police Department received a report of a student who may have brought a firearm to school’s campus, which was immediately placed on a ‘lockdown status.’ “Officers arrived and met with the school principal, who identified the student,” explains Interim Chief of Police Michael Bengoa-Bollinger. “It was learned no gun was ever observed, and it was a ‘statement’ that had been overheard by the reporting students while on the bus to school this morning.” School officials and officers contacted the student away from the other children and found no firearm in the student’s possession.
