Emergency services at the scene of an ongoing serious incident after two teens got into difficulty in the River Tyne

Emergency Services Mobilized Following Report of Two Boys in Distress Near Ovingham Bridge, Northumberland

In a dramatic turn of events this evening near Ovingham Bridge in Northumberland, emergency services have been deployed en masse following reports of two teenage boys in distress in the River Tyne. The incident began at approximately 3:30 PM when Northumbria Police received a call expressing concern for the welfare of the boys, who had apparently encountered difficulties in the water.

The response from emergency services was immediate and robust, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. Northumbria Police, Northumberland Fire and Rescue, and the North East Ambulance Service quickly converged on the scene. Their presence underscores the collaborative effort required in such high-stakes rescue operations.

The Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, in particular, has been at the forefront of the rescue efforts. Their swift water rescue units from Pegswood and a fire appliance from Prudhoe, along with several senior officers, have been actively engaged in the operation. The Fire and Rescue Service provided updates on X, formerly known as Twitter, detailing their coordinated efforts with other emergency agencies including the police, ambulance service, and mountain rescue teams.

A spokesperson from the North East Ambulance Service elaborated on the scale of the response, which included the deployment of their full Hazardous Area Response Team. Additional resources comprised two ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader, and an officer. Support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service was also requested, highlighting the critical nature of the situation and the need for aerial assistance in such scenarios.

Northumbria Police echoed the urgency of the operation in their statement, emphasizing the large multi-agency presence and appealing to the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to perform their duties without hindrance. They have also urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist with the ongoing efforts.

The incident has drawn significant attention from the local community, with many expressing concern for the welfare of the boys and gratitude for the rapid response by emergency services. The operation is a stark reminder of the unpredictable dangers posed by natural water bodies and the importance of timely intervention by trained professionals.

As the situation develops, authorities continue their diligent work at the scene. The priority remains the safe resolution of the incident and the welfare of the individuals involved. The community watches with bated breath, hoping for a positive outcome as emergency services persist in their critical mission along the banks of the River Tyne.

For now, the public is advised to steer clear of the area to allow rescuers to operate without obstruction. Updates from authorities are expected as the operation progresses, and the community's thoughts remain firmly with the two boys and their families during this harrowing time.
