Kane County Police released update about Reports of Active shooter at Kaneland High School

The quick response and investigation by the Kane County Sheriff's Office and the school resource officer determined that the social media group reported to the Kane County Sheriff's Office previously was fictitious, and the alleged posts were rumors only.

Kaneland High School (D302) and the Kane County Sheriff's Office take all reports extremely seriously - fictitious or not.

It has come to the attention of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office that a new social media group has been made on Facebook alleging that an active shooter is presently at the Kaneland High School - 47W326 Keslinger Rd, Maple Park, IL 60151 - and the Kane County SWAT Team is en route.

THIS IS A FAKE POST.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office has many sworn police officers on the scene inside and outside the school grounds, along with the school resource officer.

THERE IS NO ACTIVE THREAT, and the post is fake.

The School District (D302) has also been made aware of the new Facebook group and will investigate to take direct action and work in tandem with the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

Diamond View Briefly Locked Down While Police Investigate Threat

There were some scary moments Wednesday morning for Diamond View School students, staff and parents, after the Susanville Police Department received a report of a student who may have brought a firearm to school’s campus, which was immediately placed on a ‘lockdown status.’ “Officers arrived and met with the school principal, who identified the student,” explains Interim Chief of Police Michael Bengoa-Bollinger. “It was learned no gun was ever observed, and it was a ‘statement’ that had been overheard by the reporting students while on the bus to school this morning.” School officials and officers contacted the student away from the other children and found no firearm in the student’s possession.
